Prevention
The performinglevel of the horse is depending on several factors. Of course you try to influence these factors the right way. If you want your horse to be a ‘happy atlethe’, it’s important to have a good management for your sporthorse. Several professionals, like the vet, the farrier, the saddlefitter, the dentist and the physiotherapist are involved in this management.
When your horse has no specific problems, physiotherapy or chiropractic can still be indicated for:
High level performing horses
When there’s a decrease of performing, it’s obviously recommended to consult the vet and the physiotherapist. Rather you’d like to prefent your horse from this performance decrease. By regular examination and treatment, very subtile problems can be discovered and solved in time. Your training- and competitionschedule is not influenced by the treatment, unless the horse is seriously injured.
Horses in competition
When your horse gets injured during a competition period, you want to use as little medication (like painkillers or anti-inflammatory drugs) as possible. By treatment, several problems can be solved without the use of medication, so drugtesting won’t be a problem when you continue competition.
Horses known with former backproblems or other injuries
By regular examination and treatment, very subtile problems can be discovered and solved in time, so they can’t increase to the problems your horse had in the past.
Young horses getting in training
When a young horse gets in training, it doesn’t have the strength and endurance yet to carry the rider properly. Due to this, some horses get subtile injuries, that can lead to serious problems in the future.
Breeding horses
Treatment shows significant improvement of fertillity. In human medicine there’s al lot of scientific proof. http://www.chiro.org/research/ABSTRACTS/Infertility.shtml
In 2007 my collegue Taru Kalimo has proven the effectiveness of chiropractic treatment in horses. Due to this, more scientific research takes place at this moment.
Location
When you have more than 2 horses at one location, I can come to your stables. Otherwise I would request you to come to my practice at Oudewater or Leusden (the Netherlands).
Price
This depents on the location, the frequency of treatment and the number of horses. Some horses are treated once a quarter or a month, others once a week.
